Special note:
Gary J. Levinson,
CEO of Hollywood International
Pictures has
confirmed that he will be our
special guest speaker for the August 25 Tele-Seminar Call and
our In-Person guest speaker for the actual seminar in Studio
City the next day, August 26. Mark your calendars.
This is an opportunity that rarely presents itself. Gary
is a very busy producer/director and is seldom available to
speak at our events. |
| PLEASE NOTE:
There are a number of people on the call today
who did not register ahead of time. Those who register by
midnight the night before a can have their photo,
resume, website link, and even a mini-bio on the show notes page
(where producers are directed) if they so desire. IF YOU
DID NOT PRE-REGISTER FOR TODAY'S CALL, please be sure to do so
for next Saturday's call. Again, 3:00 PM Pacific US Time.
As this call becomes more and more popular, we may change the
access codes, even on a weekly basis. Also, only those who
pre-register for future calls will be eligible to win prizes
that we give away during the calls. So, please register
for each call. Thank you! |
| PLEASE
let your actor friends know about these calls.
We provide them as a free service. Be sure that your
friends register for each call.
rock@HollywoodSuccess.com
They should put "Seminar Call" in the subject area.
In the body of the letter, they need to put their name, the city
from which they will be calling, and the phrase, "Referred by
(your name here)." They can either attach their photo and
resume or include a link to it. The person who has the
most referrals on each call will get a nice prize. The
person who has the most referrals for each month receives a very
nice prize. And everybody who gets a minimum of five
referrals on any call gets a gift as well. |
| SHOW NOTES:
Although some show notes will be added here
during the call, most will be added afterward. A link to a
recording of the call will also be added. |

TeleSeminar Events are limited to a maximum of 97 people, so ...

We
were

"Champs for Children" charity. You can discover some of
Melody's "secrets" at

Also, please mark your calendars: We expect to have Melody

Professional
Actor/Producer/Author/Casting Director
"Alien
Actor" Bill Blair will be joining us today (July
14) as a special guest on the call. He wrote the book on
professionalism for actors -- literally -- entitled, "The
Professional's Talent Handbook." |
Producer
Eugene Mandelcorn joined us briefly on last Saturday's call.
We will have him as a featured speaker on future calls --
possibly as early as next Saturday. We'll let you know soon. |
Congratulations are in order for our friend and APS member Janét
Vincent Lee, an amazingly talented lady, who landed a fairly
large role in a feature film with ... oh, no; we can't say the
name of this number one box-office star until it is officially
announced in the trades. Hmmm. I suppose we can only
say that the feature is shooting in France (her role, at least,
with this person we can't name who makes France his home now)
and that the star has a connection to a certain attraction at
Disneyland and has broken a couple of box office records.
Hopefully, we can break the
suspense soon and let you know this actor's name. Maybe
Janét will tell us on today's call ... |
|
Following is an e-mail we sent to our professional APS members and
select additional actors on Friday, July 13th. It contains some
great information we want to share with those on the call and those who
listen to the recorded call later: |
|
IMPORTANT
MESSAGE:
=============================================
Please RSVP either way for tomorrow's Tele-Seminar Call
Let us know if you will or will not
be able to join us, please.
=============================================
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
I'm working on
the SHOW NOTES for tomorrow's Tele-Seminar event. At the
moment, last week's show notes are at:
www.HollywoodSuccess.com/show_notes.htm.
By early afternoon today, the show notes for tomorrow's call
will be available at that link. The best way to participate, of
course, is by calling in live. If you miss that direct
opportunity, you can always go to the Show Notes Page and listen
to a recording of the call online. You can even fast-forward,
replay, or even go directly to sections you want to hear when
time is pressing...
Our guests for tomorrow's call include multiple award-winning
producer, director, actor, and film distributor, David
Heavener. David has already hired several APS
actors for his current TV series. He is looking for
talent for the next seven episodes. He hired my old friend,
Rowdy Roddy Piper, to guest star
in one episode. He is also seeking talent for his next feature
film, a western entitled "Branded." David will
be our special guest speaker on Sunday at the live event
(www.HollywoodSuccess.com/special_event.htm) as
well. IF YOU WANT TO WORK ON HIS FEATURE FILM AND/OR TV
SERIES, here's a strong suggestion: Call in
tomorrow. Let him know you're on the call. During the
question and answer portion of the "show," reintroduce yourself
and ask a good question. You could ask, for example, "David,
when you speak at live events, like the one you will be doing
tomorrow, what do you look for in the audience members? I know
you've hired people from the audience before. What gets your
attention to the point that you hired those specific actors?"
Or, research him (www.DavidHeavener.com is
a good place to start), and ask him questions about VOD (Video
on Demand via the internet) and/or other things you've learned
about him. "David, I understand that you and John
Carpenter were both presented with awards in the same
ceremony. Were those 'Lifetime Achievement' type awards?"
Etc., etc.
Also set for tomorrow's TeleSeminar call is successful actor (he
bought two houses so far from his acting earnings), Bill
Blair. Although we don't tout Bill as a producer and
casting director, he does get involved in those areas every once
in a while, and we know he's in talks ("in development") with a
German company for a big upcoming project. However, Bill is
best known as the "Alien Actor" (www.AlienActor.com).
If you watch shows like Star Trek and
Babylon 5, etc., you have seen him portraying over 80
different species of aliens on hundreds of TV episodes and in a
number of feature films. Bill has a very active fan club and he
is in demand as a speaker internationally. He makes a very good
"bonus living" by appearing at SciFi Conventions all over the
world. There is even a Bill Blair Birthday Cruise, which I
understands usually sells out and presents Bill with another
very nice paycheck. Bill wrote a book about professionalism in
the acting business, and he will be joining us on both the
TeleSeminar call AND the IN PERSON seminar the next day in
Studio City. Bill, as you might guess, is extremely
well-connected in the industry. Even if he isn't able to hire
you personally at the moment, he certainly can make
introductions to some big people in the industry who could hire
you for some very big projects. Again, we suggest you come on
the TeleSeminar Call Saturday, introduce yourself, ask a good
question or two ... AND ... followup by actually meeting Bill
the next day in person.
THIS IS HOW IT (Hollywood Success!) WORKS. The actors who
actually "go to" the producers, instead of waiting for the
producers to come to them, are the ones who are getting more
work. And, in several cases, they are getting considerably more
work! For example ... Congratulations are in order for APS
actor Dalton O'Dell who just landed another starring
role -- this time, a three-week starring role in
a multi-million-dollar feature film. And, that's on top of the
other roles he has landed lately. He even joined us on last
week's call from the set, between takes. Some actors, who could
have been on the call, were sitting home watching television
during that time. Do we need to say it? Okay, "Maybe that is
why some were on the set working and others were sitting home."
Pro-Active Professionals Work
More.
Anyway ... now back to tomorrow's call: We are promoting the
Show Notes pages to producers. (Hint: You want to be on the
Show Notes pages when producers are referencing them.) If you
can join us tomorrow, please let us know right away. We'll get
your photo and info (and link to your APS website and your own
website) on the Show Notes page. And, it's still not too late
to get your actor friends on the call. Details
are in the balance of the e-mail below.
Links to the
Show Notes pages, including those associated with past, current,
and future calls, will be sent to hundreds (and eventually
thousands) of producers. Please let us know right away if you
will be joining us on tomorrow's call so we can get you on the
page before we begin at 3:00 PM (Pacific). If you want a
mini-bio beside your photo and resume for the producers to see,
please get it to me via e-mail a.s.a.p. 90 words or less,
preferably written in the third person. You'll see what I mean
when you look at the page.
I'd like to share with you an e-mail I sent to several producer
friends yesterday:
This Saturday, at 3:00 PM,
we will produce our third weekly mini-seminar-by-phone event
(teleconference call).
If you'd like, you can listen to a recording of last Saturday's
call (July 7) on your computer. Just click the Telephone
Icon on the
Show Notes Page
(www.HollywoodSuccess.com/show_notes.htm)
We would really like to have you
on a future call (or future calls) and/or as a
special guest speaker at our in-person events in Studio City.
If you could be a guest on a Saturday TeleSeminar and
a guest speaker the next day at the live Studio
City event, that would be wonderful! But, whenever you have
availability and are willing to speak, that's great for us.
The first two TeleSeminar Calls were successful experiments.
Beginning this Saturday, my intention is to format the call more
like a radio show. As you can see from the Show
Notes Page
(www.HollywoodSuccess.com/show_notes.htm),
we already have the recorded shows available for people to play
back over their computers (in addition to photos and notes for
them to read). Soon we will have them available as pod-casts as
well. As with most everything else we do, these calls,
recordings and upcoming podcasts are free (as long as we can
afford the bandwith).
The Saturday afternoon "shows" are quite flexible, but we expect
them to loosely follow the following format:
3:00 PM: "Roll-Call" -- Callers are invited to "say your name
and from where you are calling."
3:05 PM: Rock lets the callers know that the call is going to
be recorded. He excuses himself from the call for about 15
seconds in order to set the recording in motion. The recorded
voice announces to all, "This call is now being recorded." Rock
introduces the call; lets the callers know what to expect; and
announces who will be the special guest(s) on the call.
Sticking with the radio show format, Rock talks about and
teaches his subject(s) in his opening monologue. At the
beginning of the monologue, Rock generally lets the callers know
that they are temporarily muted.
3:20 PM: Rock introduces the first special guest. GUEST NUMBER
ONE shares any information he or she feels is pertinent. The
balance is an interview format with Rock interviewing the
guest. NOTE: If you have specific questions you would like for
me to ask you when you are a guest, please e-mail them to me
prior to the show, preferably no later than the night before the
show. I will make sure to incorporate those questions in the
show.
3:35 PM: Rock unmutes the callers so they can ask questions of
Guest Number One.
3:45 PM: Rock mutes the callers and introduces GUEST NUMBER
TWO. The same procedure repeats itself as it did with Guest
Number One.
4:00 PM: Rock unmutes the callers so they can ask questions of
Guest Number Two.
4:10 PM: Rock makes pertinent announcements, talks about the
next day's live in-person seminar event, and answers caller
questions about APS, upcoming events, the website, etc.
4:20 PM: The speakers share any final thoughts, ask questions
of each other if desired, give contact details if desired, and
take a few final questions from the callers.
4:28 PM: Rock thanks the speakers, acknowledges the guests by
name (those who pre-registered) reiterates any last-minute
announcements, gives away any prizes, and closes out the call
4:30-4:35 PM: Rock stops the recording and bids a fond farewell
to the guests.
(If there is only one guest -- or if there are three or more
guests, we will adjust the timing accordingly.)
Following are the proposed dates for the upcoming phone seminars
and the in-person events. If you are interested in being a
guest speaker, please let me know your availability right away.
I'll get back to you with the call-in number and access
code. When you respond, please let me know if there's anything
special you'd like for me to say in your introduction, any
specific questions you'd like for me to ask, and if there is
anything you'd like for me to mention on your behalf. Thank you
very much. Also, if you are NOT available for any of the dates,
please let me know that as well.

=================================
FOR ALL APS MEMBERS: IMPORTANT!
=================================
Good Morning!
As a reminder, we are producing our third in a series of
Tele-Seminar Events tomorrow, Saturday, at 3:00 PM Pacific Time.
Here's the info:
About five minutes until 3:00 PM Saturday, West Coast time, please
call (319) 741-8100. When prompted, enter your access code:
664585# (That's 664585 and the
"#" sign).
David Heavener, Bill Blair, Jim Goddard,
Bill Hooey, and probably a surprise
guest or two will join me (Rock Riddle) to welcome you to
the third weekly APS/Hollywood Success Teleconference Call.
We need to know ahead of time who will
be joining us on the call. So, if you're sure (or even pretty
sure) that you will be joining us tomorrow, please respond to
this e-mail and let us know. Here are a few things we're
planning for this tele-seminar series:
-
At
least for the first few months, the calls will be
limited to a maximum of 97 people.
-
There
will be producers on each call who will simply listen
and give me their private feedback afterwards.
-
All actors who register by midnight Pacific Time the day
before the event will be offered the opportunity to have
their photo and resume on our website -- in a
section where the producers can reference them. Both
the producer guests who speak and those who simply
listen will be looking at the photos and resumes of the
people on the call.
-
In most cases, the calls will be recorded. If you are a
part of the call and want to listen to it in its
entirety, we'll supply you with a phone number to call.
The recorded seminar will be available to listen to (at
the phone number we will give you) for six days
following the actual call. MP3s of the call will also
be available for download.
-
There will be a special section of our website which
will be accessible by those who hire actors.
This special section will contain recordings of the
calls along with "show notes." The show notes will
include photos and resumes of the actors who
were on the call, links to their website(s),
who asked what questions, etc.
-
We will be featuring many producers on these calls who
have never spoken at an in-person APS seminar
event. As soon as we have the first three calls
recorded and available on-line for producers (with the
show notes, links, etc.), we will be going after
the top producers in the industry as future
guests.
-
YOU and the other actors on the calls will be
seen and heard by MAJOR PRODUCERS who
will be listening to recorded calls while viewing the
accompanying show notes.
These calls are a great new way
to (1) provide another avenue to market our wonderful APS
members to producers and (2) introduce more major producers and
directors to the APS organization. Once producers listen and
then speak on the call(s) and become more familiar with APS and
the APS members, many of them will, for the first time, appear
at in-person APS seminars and attend the APS Estate Networking
Events. We're excited about the new opportunities that are
about to open to our APS family!
THIS IS A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY
for not only you, but also for your deserving actor friends.
Please feel free to forward this e-mail to any actor(s) who
would appreciate being a part of the calls. APS members always
get priority, of course, but this is still a great opportunity
for your non-APS member friends as well. In addition to your
own RSVP (right away, please), please let your actor friends
know that they need to register for the call as well. They can
attach a photo and resume to their registration e-mail for the Producers
Show-Notes page. We need everyone who intends to be on
the call to send an e-mail to
rock@hollywoodsuccess.com
with "SEMINAR CALL REGISTRATION" in the subject
line. In the body of the letter, we need the person's name, the
name of the city from which they they will be calling, and the
name of the person who referred them.
Again, please let us know right away if you will be joining us
on tomorrow's call. And, do let us know if you have forwarded
this information to other actors. Thank you! All the best,
Rock Riddle, President

SHOW NOTES |
| Rock
Riddle hosted the call and began it with the following words ...
"Welcome
to HOLLYWOOD SUCCESS!
"This
is TeleSeminar Event #3 for July 14, 2007.
Show Notes for
today’s TeleSeminar call and for all
additional calls are available online at HollywoodSuccess.com.
"The best way
to utilize these TeleSeminar Events is to join us live every
week. You can interact with, and ask questions of, our
professional entertainment industry guests. You can even have
your photo and resume on the "Show Notes" page if you let us
know ahead of time that you’ll be joining us for the call.
"This series
of TeleSeminar calls is being marketed currently to hundreds of
producers. Eventually, these TeleSeminar events will be brought
to the attention of thousands of producers. Please remember,
producers hire and fire everyone in the film and television
business. Whether they are guests speaking on the calls or
whether they are simply listening to on-line recordings of
previous calls, the producers are looking at the Show Notes
pages. Actors, you might want to have your information on the
Show Notes pages of future calls for those thousands of
producers to see. This is another free service from APS
Entertainment, Hollywood Success, and me. My name is Rock
Riddle. I am your host for this series of TeleSeminar Calls. I
am also President of the organization that is sponsoring and
producing these events for you. The organization is APS
Entertainment and, of course, HollywoodSuccess.com.
"For over 30
years, APS Entertainment has been in the business of marketing,
promoting, providing networking opportunities, and empowering
professionals in the entertainment industry – both in front of
and behind the camera. We have produced 17 cable television
shows, one of which was nominated for a Cable Ace Award, and we
have shot nine days of footage for the opening and closing of
our upcoming feature film, the working title of which is "When
Wrestling Was Real." APS Entertainment has a unique mission
statement. In short, our goal is to enable serious, passionate
entertainment industry professionals to achieve their dreams ...
and go beyond. By the way, if there is anyone on this call who
is thinking, "I’m just a struggling actor; I’m not an
entertainment industry professional," allow me to please correct
you. Professionalism is much more of an attitude than a long
list of credits. So, for everyone who has joined us live on this
call and for everyone who is listening afterward to the
recording: We are here to empower YOU. We are here to share
insight and inside information with you that will greatly
accelerate your success. We are here to help make your dreams
come true. But, before we can make your dreams come true, we
need to ask you to do three things.
1) Determine exactly what your dreams
are concerning the film and television industry.
2) Dream bigger.
3) Realize that your dreams are attainable: Yes, you can have it
all!
"In an
industry where most information is misinformation, we are here
to give you truth – blatantly and even brutally honest truth. Of
course, from your point of view, our truths, even though based
on actual professional experience, are simply opinions. You will
hear from highly opinionated professionals today ... including
me. I will have the opportunity and the honor to be able to
introduce our special guests on today’s call. I will be able to
share with you some of their background and accomplishments.
When you know the experience of the speakers, their credibility
will increase and their "opinions" will probably mean more to
you.
"Because I am
your host for today’s event, I have no one to introduce me.
Therefore, I can either introduce myself at this time and share
with you a little of my professional background ... or we can
ask for a volunteer from the audience. Please allow me to
explain. At the top of the Show Notes page on the
HollywoodSuccess.com website, there is a link to the 13-page
booklet that we are using for this and subsequent calls.
Hopefully, everyone on the call has either downloaded and
printed the booklet or is displaying it on their computer
monitors. If you have not already done so, go to
HollywoodSuccess.com. Scroll down slightly and click on "Show
Notes & 13-Page Booklet Here." That will take you to the Show
Notes Page where you can get the booklet.
"Now, if
there is anyone on the call who has the booklet in front of you
and you’d like to read the little paragraph in the bottom right
corner of the first page, press the number 6 on your phone to
un-mute yourself and let me know you’re willing. If no one comes
forward, I’ll read it myself.
"Rock
Riddle, your Master of Ceremonies at the seminar events, has
over a quarter of a century and more than 125,000 hours'
professional experience in the film and television industry. His
background includes: President of APS Entertainment, of course,
as well as: SAG Franchised Talent Agent and Agency Co-Owner,
Personal Manager, Producer, Casting Director, Stunt Person, Talk
Show Host, Film and Television Actor, and Amazon.com
Best-Selling, Award-Winning Author ("How to Become a
Magnet to Hollywood Success").
His greatest talents include (1) his
mastery in the marketing of entertainment industry professionals
and (2) his amazing ability to motivate, inspire, and teach
actors how to achieve and go beyond their dreams.
On April 21, 2007, Rock was presented
with the prestigious Reel Honoree Award, an award which
is presented once a year to an individual who has made a
difference in the entertainment industry. Past recipients of
this award include Sylvester Stallone, Charles Bronson,
David Carradine, Robert Conrad, Kirk Douglas, Cesar Romero,
Mickey Rooney and others. Rock has dedicated the
majority of his life to helping people achieve and live their
dreams in the entertainment industry, and he is very proud of
this honor.
"Special
note: If you have questions that do not get answered on today’s
call, please feel free to e-mail them to me for next week’s
call. I get hundreds of e-mails everyday, so please put the
words, "SEMINAR CALL QUESTION" in the subject line. My e-mail
address is
rock@hollywoodsuccess.com
. That’s
R-O-C-K@hollywoodsuccess.com
.
"Today’s
special guests include Bill Blair, David Heavener, Jim Goddard,
and Bill Hooey. There are additional producers who are
listening. If we have time, we’ll bring them on towards the end
of the call. So, I will make the announcement now: If there are
additional producers on the call who would like to join us
during the last 10 or 15 minutes for the question and answer
session, please feel free to announce yourself at that time and
join us.
"Speaking of
our special guests ... David Heavener, if you are on the call,
could you please press the number six on your phone to un-mute
yourself. After you’ve done so, would you please announce
yourself and let us know you’re on the call. ----- Excellent.
Allow me, if you would, to take a moment to introduce you to our
callers and listeners"
Rock introduced
multiple award-winning producer, director, actor, distributor,
and celebrity David Heavener. |
| David
Heavener thanked Rock for the introduction and discussed his
"Dawn of the Living Dead" movie. WalMart, Target, etc. are
discounting DVDs, so they can move 200,000 units of an ultra
low-budget film. David will have his "Dawn of the Living
Dead" in WallMart by late August.
"You're no
longer just an actor, you're a creator. If you don't do
that, you're going to be left by the wayside." David
discussed "franchising" the actor. David discussed "How
actors can franchise themselves and build a fan base." The
"primitive" YouTube was discussed as one of the ways of
marketing your project and yourself for free.
David has
done dozens of independent films. "Costa Chica" began as a
feature film. Half-way through filming, David realized
that he had what could make a terrific TV series. He
turned it into a series. Four episodes are complete.
Rowdy Roddy Piper starred in one. It deals with demon
possession. David is one of the stars.
The
upcoming Western, "Branded" was discussed. It will be shot
on David's Tehachapi Studio. He believes there's a big
market for Westerns. He will be shooting one Western per
year for the next four or five years.
AFM (The
American Film Market) takes place in Santa Monica, CA every
November. David has a booth there. This is the
biggest film market in the world. It's a wonderful place
to meet literally hundreds of producers over a period of 8 days.
David's phone number for interested actors: (818) 679-4642
A couple of
jokes went back and forth between David and Rock. They
certainly agreed on this" Enjoy the journey."
David also
has an office in North Hollywood. He has an intern
position (very flexible) coming up in a week or two. He
focuses most on "attitude." "Attitude is 99% of success;
1% is talent."
Marketing,
promotion, networking is important ... plus attitude. Now
the callers have friends in the business. Nobody is paid
to speak on these calls or at the in-person seminars. "We
are here for you. We have opened ourselves to those who are on
the calls and who come to the Sunday seminars."
Rock said,
"What brings me the most joy is helping people achieve and live
there dreams."
David will
be speaking IN PERSON at the July 15 Studio City, CA. seminar
event. David also has a full-day seminar that he will be
presenting in August or September. Check his website for
info:
www.DavidHeavener.com
...
"When I
first got started, I had people who helped me, so now I am here
to help others." "Financial compensation for me is not top
on the list." David suggested that the people on the call
pay particular attention to the information shared by Rock.
"Rock knows what he's talking about ..."
Darrelll
Mapson asked when the casting would begin for "Branded."
Probably 15th - 28th of August through September for casting
with principal photography expected to begin in October.
Katie Korby asked about union conflicts. David talked
about "financial core" in the Screen Actors Guild, where you can
do union and non-union movies. Financial core was
discussed by Rock and David. Next week's program was
discussed.
Rock
thanked David Heavener for being on the call. David looks
forward to meeting you in person tomorrow.
==============================================
Actor/producer/casting
person Bill Blair was introduced.
www.AlienActor.com
--- Take a look. Bill has made a very good living
(he's purchased two houses that we know of) for twenty-five
years. If we count every TV show and every movie in which
Bill has been involved over the past twenty-five years, we're
looking at over a thousand projects!
Bills book,
"The Professional's Talent Handbook," talks about
professionalism and image. Those who work much more are
easy to work with, professional, understand the producer's point
of view. You must look successful to be successful.
Dress professionally. It's about personality. The
three necessary big D's: Desire, Dedication, and Drive.
Do it for
the love of the art and the business -- the money will find you.
The jobs get better and better and better as your reputation
grows. You dedicate yourself to this business and your
success in this business. You can't wait for it to happen.
You have to MAKE it happen.
Rock asked
if Bill would be willing to come back on the call again.
Bill said he would be delighted. So, the next Saturday
afternoon when Bill is not shooting, he will join us again.
Bill closed
with talking about stand-in and voice-over work. He talked
about non-on-camera work that leads to on-camera work.
Rock talked
about the VO artists who make seven+ figure yearly income from
doing voice-overs
Rock
suggested that you look at yourself as a business. He gave
the one-half million dollar business investment example and made
the correlation to the entertainment industry. Bill Blair
will join us IN PERSON tomorrow in Studio City as well!
Rock:
"If you approach the business as a serious business, you will
bet serious results. If you approach it as a hobby, you
can expect hobby-type results. This industry, once you
understand how it works and how to work it, is a relatively easy
industry in which to succeed. Our job is to give you the
roadmap to success."
Katie had a
final question for Bill Blair. "Is there more work in LA
than Chicago in Voice Overs?" Bill said, "There is more
work in Los Angeles than anywhere else in the world!" Bill
also came from Chicago to L.A. Bill has been working
without an agent since 1993!
We talked
about marketing, agents, and websites. Bill talked about
how he increased his "celebrity" status using the internet.
Rock talked about the necessity of having and promoting your own
website.
Bill:
"If you're really serious, you go to the major market
[Hollywood] where the work is!" Bill had four fairly large
talent agents who courted him via his web publicity.
Rock, as a
former talent agent and agency co-owner, shed light on the
agenting business. 95+% of the working actors here get at
least 95% of their interviews and work through sources other
than their theatrical (film & TV) agent. The agent's real
job is to negotiate money and billing. The actor's job is
to get the work.
Rock gave
this special gift to all on the call: "If it is to be, it
is up to me." -- The ten most powerful two-letter words in the
English language. Actors are in the marketing, promoting,
advertising business. The acting work comes as a result.
Bill is in
talks, along with a couple of additional producers, and is in
development as a producer on two Sci-Fi projects. Bill gave his
personal e-mail address. (You'll have to listen to the
recorded call; we're not going to list it here).
Rock spoke
with additional producers on the call and took questions.
The callers and the producers realized that they were muted --
and towards the later portion of the call, they unmuted
themselves. For the final 15-20 minutes, questions were
asked, jokes were told, and a good time was had by all.
"Mailing doesn't work. -- Here's what DOES work ..." No,
you'll have to listen to the call to get this information.
"The best way to get an agent is to ignore agents, and to focus
on WORK." "What to say to the agents ..." How to
come from a position of power ... and lots more. "Here's
how we as agents think ..." The big box overflowing with
$100 bills story...
Until next
week, all the best! |

Tad started acting at
the age of 6 under the tutelage of Hollywood and Broadway
producer/writer/director Joshua Logan. A veteran of over 80 stage
shows, this versatile performer has also sung in such venues as
Carnegie Hall, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Franz Lizt Music
Academy in Budapest. He is VP of Project Development at Great Ideas
Entertainment, and has received star billing over actor Lance
Henriksen, among his many other principal/leading roles since coming
to Hollywood. He is a dedicated, professional performer, and one of
the funniest guys on set.
Tad also works on the production side of the
industry. He has co-produced or associate produced two films
and is currently seeking talent for an upcoming feature film.

Cortelious |
In
addition to being an extraordinary actor, Cortelious is one of the most
fascinating people I have ever met. He has "beyond top secret"
status in his "other job." Knowledge he will never share makes him
even more interesting. I believe he has answers to many of my most
intriguing questions. "Gee, Rock," he will occasionally say, "I
don't know. Of course, if I did know, I couldn't tell you.
And, if I did tell you, I'd have to kill you." The slight smile on
his face tells me there's an underlying truth to his statements.
For certain types of movies, he could be an extraordinary technical
advisor --- without giving away any sensitive information. :-) |

Michael
Gavino |
As a boy in Maryland, Michael Gavino used to walk through
the woods dreaming of all sorts of fanciful stories. He would often
dream of being different characters in those stories. Little did he know
that dreaming would lead to a lifetime of acting. After leaving
Maryland, Michael attended Florida Atlantic University where he excelled
at academics and played for FAU's NCAA intercollegiate baseball team.
After earning his Bachelor and Master's of Arts from FAU, Michael
pursued his artistic dream. He continued his studies by attending The
New York Film Academy and studying under several prestigious private
teachers. He also started to act. As an actor, Michael has been in over
30 films and played the lead in 16. Among the films he has starred in
are: Detour to Hell, Reaping the Girl, The Devil and the Girl, Etiquette
of Dating, The Unknown Hero, Yes You Do, Upside Down Dan, Murder by the
Book, Night of the Escorts, I Wish I was a Fish, Vietnam Worm, Mary's
Secret, Tutorial 666, Urban Shootout, Caught Stealin’, and The
Encounter. Michael is happy for all he has achieved and has a simple
formula for success -- acting + hard work = happiness.
Michael is a successful
business man who has created several successful businesses. His
success is assured in the film and television industry as well, because
he is approaching the acting business as a business. He will also
be on the production side of the industry in the near future, producing
his own feature films ... |

Korby |
My name is Katie Korby and I am from Chicago, IL.
I have been a subscriber of your emails for about a year now. I have
attached my headshots and resume. Hopefully I could get some
wonderful feedback. I have just joined AFTRA because I have been
doing voiceovers/industrials lately. I am a member of Actor's Equity
Association. Last month I did the film, "The Return" with Tim
Robbins and Rachel McAdams - directed by Neil Burger. After working
with such talented people, I got SUCH a taste for film, even though
I am a "Theatre kid." I want to know how can I successfully have a
film career. Thank you.

Allan
Rabinowitz |
Allan has been acting since the age of 5 (Santa Claus—the
only Jewish kid in class!) and ever since in NY and LA. Many years of
stage work include years of way-off-Broadway theater and memorable roles
such as Scrooge, Matthew Harrison Brady (Inherit the Wind), Gordon
Miller (Room Service), Juror #3 (Twelve Angry Men) and Gaby (On the
Town). Recent years have included roles in indy shorts and features,
many training and documentary films, lead doctor in an episode of
"Untold Tales of the ER" (Dr. Lang in "The Gypsy King") and prominent
(and fun) background in "Friends With Money." (Watch him several times—he’s
the classy mature guy in the tux--between Jennifer Anniston and friend.)
By the way, Allan is also a licensed Performance Anxiety/ Stress
Management Specialist whose treatment is covered by SAG and AFTRA
benefits. |

Born in Puebla, Mexico in August of '83, Oliver
immigrated to the United States at the tender age of four when his
single Latina mother brought him to California. Throughout elementary
school and Junior High he was very active in Chorus and a range of other
After School Programs. In High School Oliver branched out into
athletics, show choir, and also involved himself in school musicals.
After High School he joined the Air Force ROTC where he studied to
become an electrical engineer and eventual pilot. After a brief foray
with the Air Force ROTC he found himself looking for direction. That's
when theatre and acting found him! In the Summer of 2004 Oliver was
immediately cast in various one-act plays at his local community
college. Since then, he hasn't stopped acting and performing. He
involved himself in the acting program at Cal State University Long
Beach, where he has since earned a BA degree in Theatre Arts. In three
years of acting he has co-starred on a cable TV show, starred in various
Thesis projects, acted in films that have been in the festival circuit,
and done numerous stage plays. As an Actor, Oliver strongly believes in
influential stories that affect change and provoke thought in the
viewer. |

TOM
SCHROEDER from Seattle, WA.
I
plan to get a lot of information from this teleconference before I
come down to the LA area. I would like to attend one of the events
in person in the very near future or see any of the producers and
casting directors on an appointment basis. I can fly weekly from
Seattle with very little expense, so it would be easy to arrange a
time to meet with all of you (if possible) as I intend to become an
actor full time.
?
Thank
you for allowing me this opportunity to participate in the
conference.
