Listen to the
Entire
90+ Minute Recorded Call Now

by clicking the telephone icon above:
PLEASE
NOTE: Due to a technical glitch, the quality of this
particular recording is less than perfect. The
audio is understandable, but you will need to listen carefully
and probably adjust the volume several times. The
value of the information definitely makes the inconvenience
worthwhile. Once you listen to this call, you'll LOVE the
quality of the others. Thank you! |

Special note:
Gary J. Levinson,
CEO of Hollywood International
Pictures has
confirmed that he will be our
special guest speaker for the August 25 Tele-Seminar Call and
our In-Person guest speaker for the actual seminar in Studio
City the next day, August 26. Mark your calendars.
This is an opportunity that rarely presents itself. Gary
is a very busy producer/director and is seldom available to
speak at our events. |
Producer
Eugene Mandelcorn will be "listening in" on the call today.
We will have him as a speaker on future calls. |

"Alien Actor"
Bill Blair will also be listening today. We hope to have
him as a guest speaker within the next several weeks. |
| PLEASE NOTE:
There are a number of people on the call today
who did not register ahead of time. Those who register by
midnight the night before a tele-seminar can have their photo,
resume, website link, and even a mini-bio on the show notes page
(where producers are directed) if they so desire. IF YOU
DID NOT PRE-REGISTER FOR TODAY'S CALL, please be sure to do so
for next Saturday's call. Again, 3:00 PM Pacific US Time.
As this call becomes more and more popular, we may change the
access codes, even on a weekly basis. Also, only those who
pre-register for future calls will be eligible to win prizes
that we give away during the calls. So, please register
for each call. Thank you! |
| PLEASE
let your actor friends know about these calls.
We provide them as a free service. Be sure that your
friends register for each call.
rock@HollywoodSuccess.com
They should put "Seminar Call" in the subject area.
In the body of the letter, they need to put their name, the city
from which they will be calling, and the phrase, "Referred by
(your name here)." They can either attach their photo and
resume or include a link to it. The person who has the
most referrals on each call will get a nice prize. The
person who has the most referrals for each month receives a very
nice prize. And everybody who gets a minimum of five
referrals on any call gets a gift as well. |
| SHOW NOTES:
The initial 19 callers who called in early
identified themselves. Rock Riddle introduced the call.
He spoke of success and failure. Those who are not
succeeding are sharing their "failure techniques" with other
actors. "We hope to motivate, inspire, and educate you,"
he said. "This is, unfortunately, not an industry based on
talent. There are dozens of actors starring on television
series whose talent could best be described as 'mediocre.'
And dozens of brilliantly talented actors, after investing 5,
10, 15, 20 or more years in the pursuit of their Hollywood
dreams, are giving up every single day. What do the
successful actors have in common if it's not talent?"
Rock
introduced Trena Marie Hill. Trena spoke of the importance
of attitude in achieving success in the industry. "Enjoy
the journey" was one of the points. Appreciation and joy.
Hear the applause for you. Imagine it ...
Rock added,
"Every day above ground is a good day. Celebrate life,
celebrate Hollywood. Celebrate the amazing opportunity
that Hollywood offers. Celebrate the information, insight,
inside information, and solutions we are sharing with you
today."
Failures
vs. Successful People. Wishes of both ...
Producer/director/casting director and PR professional Bill
Hooey was introduced. Bill asked where people on the call
were and suggested that all in the Southern California area come
meet him, Trena Marie Hill, and Rock Riddle at tomorrow's live
seminar event in Studio City, CA.
www.HollywoodSuccess.com/special_event.htm
Bill talked
about film degrees and their lack of any relationship to success
in the industry. "If you want to make a living, you must
approach the industry as a business." Not even the best
colleges and universities teach "how to get work." People
ask those who are failing for advice. Those who are
failing can only give advice on how to fail.
Bill
discussed what works in the industry and what doesn't. He
suggested that people make 20 phone calls a day in pursuit of
film/TV work -- and how to do that. How to make
connections ... how to build business relationships and bonds.
How to share leads, make connections for others and have others
make connections for you. He discussed who can get you
work in the business. When to move on. How to filter
out all the people who don't come through. How to develop
your personal network consisting of people who are looking out
for you. "It's like buying lottery tickets all the time.
Eventually, you're going to win something."
Don't waste
time and energy. Eliminate the negative people from your
life. When to share and when not to share information with
people. Why you need to oftentimes keep your personal
network a secret. Keep networking, keep using the phone.
Keep in touch with everyone you meet in the industry. At
the very least, send them an e-mail every six weeks.
What to
expect from the William Morris Agency if you call. What
they're looking for. Reality. Always have a master
plan. Take your ego out of the equation.
The
"audience" was un-muted and asked questions of Mr. Hooey.
Stephen Bruce from the Chicago area was the first to thank Bill.
ET, Access Hollywood-type shows were discussed. The
industry is very much a business. You must be reliable and
be a person of your word. Never be late. How to
picture the industry -- musical chairs. "Anybody who
doesn't file a police complaint against me is a potential
networking contact." What scares potential employers.
What not to say ... ever. Successful people can read
people in 30 seconds. How to project success.
Jerry Scott
from Fresno, CA asked about older actors. Bill shared
information on talent agencies and made suggestions. Get
the SAG and ATA lists of agents. What to say to get to the
"right" representation. "If you know 50 producers, in any
given week at least one of them is starting a new project ..."
Do something different in the industry if you're tired of what
you're doing now. Keep it fresh. Don't let it get
stagnant.
Gwen O'Dell
called from Burbank on behalf of her son, Dalton. Bill
talked about auditioning children and why parents are kept out
of the room. Follow-up to interviews was discussed.
How to get honest feedback. The lack of value of
multiple-year classes was discussed. "There are a number
of major stars who have never taken an acting class." How
not to be inhibited. When acting classes are of value...
Why many casting directors appear to be "extremely rude."
"The warm &
fuzziness of casting people burns up quickly." Send notes,
thank-you cards.
Rock shared
a casting director story and talked about under what
circumstances casting directors, producers, etc. are accessible,
open, and helpful. It's not in the casting office.
The secret is networking. Upcoming conference calls were
discussed. "This is a relatively simply industry in which
to succeed ... when you have the roadmap."

Why we, the
producers, pay so much attention to the people on the call and
at the in-person seminars. Now you have friends in the
industry. Now you have industry insiders who are looking
out for your interests.
We are
providing tremendous information and free publicity for all of
the people on the calls. We are going after the biggest
people -- producers, directors and major stars -- in the
industry. We hope to have many dozens of them join us for
future calls.
Prizes will
be given on future calls. Those who refer other listeners
will get a nice price. A bigger prize goes to the person
who refers the most listeners. A really big prize goes to
the person who refers the most people who join us for calls
during the month of July.
Congratulations are in order for our friend and APS member Janét
Vincent Lee, an amazingly talented lady, who landed a fairly
large role in a feature film with ... oh, no; we can't say the
name of this number one box-office star until it is officially
announced in the trades. Hmmm. I suppose we can only
say that the feature is shooting in France (her role, at least,
with this person we can't name who makes France his home now)
and that the star has a connection to a certain attraction at
Disneyland and has broken a couple of box office records.
We won't mention anything about a skull and crossbones because
that might give it away. Hopefully, we can break the
suspense soon and let you know this actor's name.
Anyway, Congratulations,
Janét! |

Michael
Gavino |
As a boy in Maryland, Michael Gavino used to walk through
the woods dreaming of all sorts of fanciful stories. He would often
dream of being different characters in those stories. Little did he know
that dreaming would lead to a lifetime of acting. After leaving
Maryland, Michael attended Florida Atlantic University where he excelled
at academics and played for FAU's NCAA intercollegiate baseball team.
After earning his Bachelor and Master's of Arts from FAU, Michael
pursued his artistic dream. He continued his studies by attending The
New York Film Academy and studying under several prestigious private
teachers. He also started to act. As an actor, Michael has been in over
30 films and played the lead in 16. Among the films he has starred in
are: Detour to Hell, Reaping the Girl, The Devil and the Girl, Etiquette
of Dating, The Unknown Hero, Yes You Do, Upside Down Dan, Murder by the
Book, Night of the Escorts, I Wish I was a Fish, Vietnam Worm, Mary's
Secret, Tutorial 666, Urban Shootout, Caught Stealin’, and The
Encounter. Michael is happy for all he has achieved and has a simple
formula for success -- acting + hard work = happiness.

-- Film/TV Producer --www.FilmArtistsNetwork.com
Hi Rock, I like the idea
of these Conference Calls. I actually do four a week myself. With our
busy schedules and the price of gas, people are traveling less and using
communication devices more than ever. I will try to listen in on this
first Conference Call on Saturday at 3pm. I will be in Bakersfield in
the morning, so I hope I get back home in time. --Eugene

Allan
Rabinowitz |
Allan has been acting since the age of 5 (Santa Claus —the
only Jewish kid in class!) and ever since in NY and LA. Many years of
stage work include years of way-off-Broadway theater and memorable roles
such as Scrooge, Matthew Harrison Brady (Inherit the Wind), Gordon
Miller (Room Service), Juror #3 (Twelve Angry Men) and Gaby (On the
Town). Recent years have included roles in indy shorts and features,
many training and documentary films, lead doctor in an episode of
"Untold Tales of the ER" (Dr. Lang in "The Gypsy King") and prominent
(and fun) background in "Friends With Money." (Watch him several times—he’s
the classy mature guy in the tux--between Jennifer Anniston and friend.)
By the way, Allan is also a licensed Performance Anxiety/ Stress
Management Specialist whose treatment is covered by SAG and AFTRA
benefits. |
