Joel
Colman
(CONFIRMED):
Director and cinematographer Joel Colman (Directors Guild of
America West and IATSE #600) is owner and CEO of The Colman Group, a T.V.
commercial and feature film production company with offices in Los Angeles,
Chicago, and New York. He has directed over 1200 commercials,
6 feature films and numerous T.V. shows. His features include "Big Time"
for Motown Productions, Smokey Robinson, producer; "Perri" and "Avalanche
Busters" for Walt Disney Productions, "The Secret Of The White Reindeer" for
Gernos Productions, and "Anatomy of a Psycho" for Alexander Brothers
Productions. Switching to musical comedy, he directed "I’ve Got Your Number" at
Luna Park Cabaret; "Mavericks", a series about people who "march to a different
drummer"; "The Left Coast" for Off Main Productions and the behind-the-scene
production short of "Back to the Future 2". Joel directed and photographed the
industry’s most awarded TV commercial, "The Green Green Grass of Home" for
Eastman Kodak as well as many other award winning commercials in his long
career. His theatrical credits include "Lady of the House" at Theater Palisades
and five years of directing showcases at many different theaters in the Los
Angeles area. He also directed the musical comedy "Taxpayer Taxpayer", a musical
revue. In addition, Mr. Colman received four glowing reviews for his directing
of the successful run of "The Secret Nymph of Hyde Park" at the American
Renegade Theater in NOHO. He is currently in pre-production on the feature film
"Cuts." He has directed many celebrity actors at the Coronet Theater and has
been awarded by the Senate of California and the California State Legislature
"Special Honor and Recognition" as Director and Cinematographer of the feature
Big Time (Motown Productions) for his "contribution to the Entertainment
Industry and Black Culture." Many of his commercials have won ANDYS, CLIOS and
IBAS awards. Joel holds a Ph.D. in Psychology and teaches consciousness-raising
seminars within the industry. He has been featured on "20/20", "Entertainment
Tonight", "Hollywood Close-up", "60 Minutes", and many other television shows.
