The next Major
APS Estate Networking Event date has been confirmed:
Sunday, September 10 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Also
confirmed is the
Briefing and Empowerment Luncheon at 11:45 AM on
Friday, September 8.
Your invitation is HERE.
For the first time ever, we are altering our dress code for the
September 10th event only. If it receives rave reviews, the
September 10th event will become the first annual Hawaiian/Tropical
Island themed event. Yes, as always, the event will still be
strictly business, but with a South Seas flavor. So, if you
don't have something to wear with an Hawaiian print, you'll need to
find something before the big event. The owner of the estate
has been pushing for a once-a-year tropical island themed event.
We decided to give it a try. There will be a strict dress code
enforced -- Hawaiian print clothing -- no exceptions, as per the
request of the estate owner. This should be very interesting,
fun, and productive.

I
just received the latest newsletter from the Cauliflower Alley Club.
This is the largest and most prestigious organization of
professional wrestlers in the world. Once a year they have a
three-day reunion that draws hundreds of wrestlers and international
press. The event culminates with a formal dinner and awards
ceremony. About a dozen people are honored each year. I
thought you might want to know who the award recipients/honorees
will be for 2007. You know one of them. Click on The
Ear's cover page to find out.

Something for our producer friends (information you might want to
share with your producer and director friends). This came from
Rande Scott --
tdctv@yahoo.com -- who is working
with this new VOD company:
VOD Licensing
Offer For Film Owners & Distributors:

THE DIRECTOR'S CUT, A VIDEO-ON-DEMAND, VIRTUAL CABLE
CHANNEL.
Do you have a new
film and you are seeking distribution? Have you
already made a distribution deal and there is a VOD
clause in your contract but nobody is servicing that
clause? Why let that area of income sit idle when it
could be generating money for you? That's where we
come in. We service both film owners and
distributors.
THE DIRECTOR'S CUT, LLC is a newly formed
Pennsylvania Limited Liability Company that will
deliver an extraordinary, in-home, independent film
experience to a market of avid film lovers.
Our audience is serious about film, and we are
committed to providing them with entertaining,
engaging and thought provoking films that they may
never see anywhere else. Including insight and
previews on new, not yet released films. What they
want to watch, when they choose to watch it.
We are devoted to promoting the work of established
as well as new and promising, creative directors,
producers and their distributors by providing them
with an alternative outlet that encourages and
supports their vision and new visions to come.
The acquisitions concept for The Director's Cut is
to offer the film owner a straight distribution deal
for Video-on-Demand only, leaving all other
distribution outlets available. Contracts for
acquisitions will be broken down as follows:
* 60/40 gross profit participation with The
Director's Cut.
* Profit Sharing:
----- 60% of all subscription monies will go to The
Director's Cut.
----- 40% of remaining monies will be distributed to
film owners, based on cable operators view-time
statistics.
* Full disclosure account reports will be provided
quarterly.
* Quarterly pay-out options include: Direct bank
deposits to film owners account. Or payment by check
upon request.
The terms of our contract are that the first six
months is non-exclusive until the film owner is
given notice of a cable availability date. Then the
contract becomes exclusive for twelve months.
We are accepting films, shorts, documentaries and
film libraries.

Roger
Corman In Person
from
producer/director Gary Levinson:
Hi
Rock. Here's the info on Roger Corman at the
Egyptian:
Friday,
August 25--7:30 PM..Corman will speak after the first of
3 movies: "Little Shop of Horrors," "The Intruder"
(William Shatner as racist agitator--I've never seen this),
"Highway Dragnet" (Richard Conte-I've never seen this one.)
August 26, 7:30 PM--triple feature: "Wasp Woman,"
"Attack of the Crab monsters," "Creature from the Haunted
Sea" Sunday, August 27--7:30PM, triple feature: "A
Bucket of Blood," "Not of This Earth," and "War of the
Satellites." I thought Corman was going to be there 2
nights, but after rereading the listing, he's just listed
for the one night. Of course, there's no telling who'll be
there, in terms of movie directors. People like Quentin
Tarantino, John Landis, and Joe Dante frequent the
Egyptian.
...
Maybe I'll see ya at some of
the Corman screenings?
 from
APS member Jesse Naufahu:
BELATED HAPPY
BIRTHDAY WISHES TO YOU, AND A HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO APS.
AGAIN, THX. SO MUCH FOR ... ALL
YOU HAVE DONE FOR MY ACTING
CAREER. IT'S MY TIME.
BEST OF

Mark Valinsky has done some great photography for us. I
talked with him recently, and he has an offer for APS members and
other actors: He's expanding his headshot business and will

Producer Joseph Neibich called and followed up with an email.
He will be attending out next big networking event (September 10).
His next feature film, "Love and Laughter" has attracted the
interest of
Ashanti,
Alyssa Milano, Jake Busey, Tara Reid, and Ron
Perlman so far. Here's a
link to his credits, photos, and bio.

 from
APS actor member and producer Cherry Davis:
Dear Rock,
Sorry I
have been unable to attend your sessions lately. I do miss
them and you, especially your encouraging, dynamic,
energetic talks. Just wanted to let you know the good
fortune that has come my way. I have people interested in
one of my earlier screenplays, a ghost story. And I do
believe I have the first money for production. A male and
female star have been approached and that too looks good,
plus other things that have been falling into place. Of
course, I still have to have many others on my team,
initially that is, then I will back away and let the big
people do their jobs. And of course, you know I would
always help out any of your people whenever possible.
You gave
me a lot of courage to get out there and network. Well, I
did, and this is the result. You have my gratitude.
I will try to make it this Sun. at 2 in Studio City.
I see you’re still busy as ever.
All the
Best,
Cherry
Davis

 from
APS member Toni Deaver:
Rock, I am shooting Untold Stories
of the E.R. on Mon. which I won without a callback. Thanks for
your support in helping me restart my award winning acting career.

Great News: We just
received word from producer and casting director Linda
Burden-Williams that she will be joining us as our featured guest
speaker at this
Sunday's Seminar Event. Linda is CASTING
AND PRODUCING 12 SAG FEATURE FILMS! The features are
budgeted at $1 million to $1.5 million, and the first is scheduled
to begin production later this month. Please let your actor
friends know. Linda is an extremely busy lady, and we don't
know when she might be available to speak for us again. This
should prove to be one very special event!
Sunday, August
20, 2006: "The Art & Science of
Networking in the Entertainment
Industry" -- Professionals in
the entertainment industry MUST network
in order to become successful. They
must network in order to remain
successful This is an absolutely
amazing 2 1/2 hour seminar event taught
by active
entertainment
industry professionals. If you live in
the greater Los Angeles area, you run
into people who can hire you just about
every day. Learn how to recognize them,
what to say to them, and how to
follow-up so they will want to hire
you. Learn what professional networking
events are open to you -- networking
events where you can meet producers (the
people who hire and fire everybody) --
and there are multiple networking events
going on every day. Learn how to
research these people, how and where to
meet them in a professional businesslike
atmosphere, how to design and utilize a
"tickle" file to stay in touch with
them, and much more. And, if you
really want to make the
most of this opportunity, here are a few
suggestions:
-
Bring photos and resumes for the
producers. Over 40 actors have
been hired as a result of
meeting producers at these
events.
-
Bring a tape recorder if you're
not great at taking notes.
There will be a great deal of
insight and "inside" information
shared with you on Sunday.
-
Make a list of all the movies
and TV shows you've seen in the
last five years that you thought
were extraordinary.
-
See if you can find the names of
the producers of those projects;
then see how many current
addresses you can find of those
producers. Don't worry if you
don't have total success.
You'll learn how to do this
quickly at the seminar.
-
Make a list of the producers and
directors with whom you'd like
to work. You'll learn how to
contact and approach them at
Sunday's seminar.
-
Dress professionally, as though
you'll be meeting people who can
hire you -- because you will.
-
actor friends. Invite them to
attend. One thing you will be
taught is the necessity of
having a support system in
achieving major success quickly
-- the greatest amount of
success in the least amount of
time (and how to totally enjoy
the journey).
-
Please be on time. The doors
open at 1:30, and we start at
2:00 PM. It's better to be late
than not to attend at all.
However, it's much better to be
at least a few minutes early.
The producers will be impressed
with your professionalism.
-
Sign in when you arrive, drop
whatever you can into the
donation box (these events are
made possible through your
donations), take a free 14-page
"Success Tips" booklet, make a
Nametag for yourself, take a
seat, and get ready for an
amazing career-boosting two and
a half to three hour event.
-
Be sure to register for the
drawing. Several great and
valuable prizes will be given
away.
You will be amazed at
the amount of usable knowledge you gain
from this event.

Film
Producer/Director Builds Guillotine
to Cut More Than Negatives
Feature film
producer/director Nathan
Gopen is best known for his
latest film, "Care
of the State." Before
his next film project begins, he's
directing a stage production in
Orange County, CA. He'd love to see
you there. And, hint, hint: Here's
another opportunity to meet another
active producer. Details from Mr.
Gopen himself follow:
The Scarlet
Pimpernel" comes to Mission Viejo!
All APS members and friends in
Southern California are invited to
come down to see a performance of
"The Scarlet Pimpernel" at the La
Paz Intermediate School in Mission
Viejo. The show is produced and
directed by Nathan Gopen, also an
independent film producer/director
and APS member.
Dubbed "Broadway’s Most Intriguing
Musical", The Scarlet Pimpernel is a
family-friendly action/adventure
comedy set during the time of the
French Revolution. Based on the epic
classic novels by the Baroness
Orczy, The Scarlet Pimpernel is the
story of a British nobleman who
takes it upon himself, and a band of
trusted fellow aristocrats, to sail
to France in disguise and heroically
rescue innocent people condemned to
the guillotine, by means of tricks,
deception, and wit.
In the meantime, back in England,
they play the part of fops, with no
other concerns than the latest in
fashion, so as to disguise the true
identity of "the League of the
Pimpernel.
This truly is a fantastic show, with
a sweeping score, impressive drama,
as well as comedy and
action/adventure. Think a mix of
Les Miserables, Zorro and Robin
Hood!
The show runs for two weekends,
Thursday - Sunday evenings: Sept
28th - Oct 1st, and Oct 5th- 8th.
Details and online ticket sales are
at
www.ocpimpernel.com .
As a special for our APS/Hollywood
Success friends, we have a limited
time 10% discount. Order your
tickets online before September
10th, and when you checkout, use the
coupon code "apsactor".
The 10% discount will automatically
be calculated with your order. For
further questions, call (949)

Column #27 will not be published until next week, but it and the
additional 26 columns are available for you to
read online here.
Although they are not "about" the upcoming feature film "When
Wrestling Was Real," reading them will give you a very good feel for
the film.

Congratulations to
those of you who were hired for film
and television projects you
discovered on our website. And,
congratulations to those of you who
were on the official guest list (all
APS members were) and attended the
World Premiere Screening of
Donald F. Glut's latest
feature film Wednesday night at Sony
Studios. It was another opportunity
to meet some major film producers
such as Academy Award winning
producer/director Randal
Kleiser.
Don
is one of the
best-connected people in the
business and has many friends in
high places. He will be one of our
featured guest speakers at a special
noon-time event in North Hollywood
next Friday. |
