Daniel Wallace born in the heart of Oregon's Willamette Valley.
His parents were decent hard working and deeply religious people.
Dan's father was a timber products worker and his mother was a
homemaker and the daughter of a minister and Midwestern
farmer.
Daniel was brought up with strong blue-collar work ethics. He
was taught that nothing in life was free and everything was earned
by the swet of the brow and the strength of ones back.
With his pragmatic working class upbringing, performing, acting
or any visual artistic endeavor was viewed as a waist of time,
showing off, sinfully bringing undue attention to ones self.
Daniel knew from an early age that performing was what his
passion was. Dan would envision himself as being a character on
one or more of the popular TV shows of the day. Any time this
desire was shared with his family it was met with disdain, and was
passionately discouraged.
The dream went dormant for a while but would not die. After
many years of following in the footsteps of his dad, Daniel
couldn't push the desire down any more. Finally at the age of 29
Daniel auditioned for a part on a college rendition of "Oklahoma."
The audition was less than stellar. Being high on desire but very
naIve, Daniel went to the audition unprepared. When asked what
song that he had chosen Daniel, had to quickly select a number
from the show. Dan chose "Oh What a Beautiful Morning." This
song had never been sung in that key before and never has been
since. Daniel didn't get much further than 'oh what a beautiful
morning, oh what a beautiful day. I've got a beaut... and the
casting director cut in and said, "Ok thank you." The dance
choreography didn't go much better. Half way into the number
Daniel slipped and fell on his butt. Not once mind you but twice.
Holding his head down, Daniel left the audition feeling that he had
blown it big time. He said to himself, "At least I tried. Maybe I
have just a lot of desire with no talent." To Daniel's surprise the
casting director's assistant called and said, "We would like to have
you in the chorus." In which he replied with stunned surprise,
"WHY !" She said, "Yes, you made some huge mistakes, but Ms.
Haley saw something in you."
From that moment on Daniel worked very hard to prove to the
director that what she saw in him was indeed real. By opening
night Dan was in several featured dance numbers with an ensemble
of dancers. And yes he was sing on key.
That was just the beginning. Daniel was with a Melodrama troupe
for several years, and a community theater project. Daniel also
worked in the cast of a couple of student films, two independent
films, and local cable commercials.
Daniel loves the theater, but his focus is more on being a screen
and voice actor now.
