Days in Hollywood
by Mark Fernandes
Since I was a kid, I always
enjoyed movies -- watching them and imitating the actors -- much to
the embarrassment of my parents.
I remember watching "Close
Encounters" with Richard Dreyfus and thinking "WOW!! I would
love to do this as a profession. I imagined working with him
and all my other silver screen heroes. But, I never quite
understood how to make this dream a reality.
Fast Forward 17 years, and I
am in the atrium of the Arclight Cinema on Sunset Blvd. in
Hollywood, California, shaking hands with Richard Dreyfus -- and not
just him, but also Johnny Depp and Dustin Hoffman. It was like
a dream come true!
How did this happen?
I am not a big believer in
coincidence, but I am a big supporter of fate -- you just never know
. . .
Impatient as I am, I leaped on
a plane from the UK to Los Angeles the first minute I could. I
had the foresight to see that England lacked the opportunities to
really achieve what I desired and that America offered that.
I was distinctly lacking in
big credits on my resume when I arrived.
